Fiala was joined by Legislator Jason Garnar and members of the Traffic Safety Board for a news conference to sign into law the texting ban passed by the Broome County Legislature. The texting ban prohibits the use of wireless handsets to compose, read, or send text messages while operating a motor vehicle.

(BINGHAMTON, NY) During the summer months, the Broome County Highway Department is improving several roadways and bridges. Beginning on Monday, June, 29, 2009 crews will be working on the drainage structures on Taft Avenue just north of Daren Drive in Endicott. This construction will last approximately two weeks. The road will remain open for two way traffic through the construction zone; however, during daytime hours, alternating lane closures will occur. Traffic flow will be controlled by flag persons during these hours.
