Whether you’re looking for a New Job or a Better Job… Please come in or call in advance to reserve your seat for workshops. Mastering The Job Search A Four-Part series that covers all aspects of successful job hunting and can be completed in ONE week! Basic Computer Skills An introduction to the personal computer for the beginner: hardware, software, windows and Internet basics. Career Exploration/Financial Aid Create a plan of action that allows you to choose a career that is right for you and discover various sources of financial aid to get the training you need. Choices Use a comprehensive computer program to not only explore your career interests but also assess your aptitudes for various jobs and possibly do a work search based on your findings. You don’t need to be a computer expert, but you do need basic keyboard and mouse skills. Civil Service Tips Explains the different levels of civil service, town, county, state, and federal systems and how to relate your qualifications to the exams being offered. Prepare for taking an actual test; the types of questions asked, and what to look for. Employer Visits Sign-up in advance to meet with representatives of area employers. Interview Tips Have a job interview coming up? Don't miss this opportunity to find out the do's and the don'ts of job interviewing. This workshop will help you prepare for your next interview, and also discuss the tough questions you might face before landing your new job. Job Fair Tips If you want to know how to make the most of the upcoming Job Fair, attend this short meeting to get some inside advice. Networking Group This group meets approximately every two weeks to discuss job tips, and information about businesses and job search techniques. Please sign-up and get ready for great new ideas. Re-Employment Series You are encouraged to sign up for all THREE parts of this series designed to help you conduct your work search professionally, and successfully. Part 1 – Targeting Your Skills – You will have the opportunity to go through a self assessment and see how your background and qualifications meet the needs of the current labor market. Part 2 – Communicating with Employers – You will learn about resumes, job applications, interviewing, cover letters and work search related correspondence. Part 3 – Smart Marketing – This workshop will cover networking in the advertised and “hidden” job markets, and the importance of goal setting in your work search plan. Resume Review For individuals with a finished resume, this workshop will review, critique and proofread resumes. Suggestions for improving your resume will be discussed. Scan-able Resume Preparation Many local companies, such as Lockheed Martin, store job applicant’s resumes on a database. These resumes are “scanned” into the storage database and this process changes the rules of resume writing. Sign up for this workshop and you’ll learn the do’s & don’ts about creating an effective, results oriented, scan-able resume. Tele-Commuting Many national companies are hiring people local to work for them out of their own homes. Come to this workshop and learn more about this innovative labor market. Typing/Keyboarding Practice and/or On-line Job Applications Many local companies such as: AIG, Bank One, Civil Service, and Customer Service positions, include a typing/keyboarding assessment as part of their job application screening process. If you are considering applying to any one of them sign up for a one hour session to check your WPM, 10 Key Speed, and practice in our Computer Lab. Also, if you’re applying to: Home Depot, Universal, BAE, Willow Run, Civil Service, Time Warner, UHS, or any other company that has an “on-line” job application; sign up for one of these sessions and we will assist you, as needed, with the process. Using the Computer in Your Job Search Acquire the latest internet computer techniques for conducting a job search.. Learn how to use America’s Job Bank, how to complete on-line applications, and submit resumes to employer websites. Avoid common mistakes and learn time saving tips that will speed the process for finding a job. You’ll need basic keyboard and mouse skills. Write the Resume This is an interactive workshop utilizing the computer lab for building the resume, based on skills and work experience. You don’t need to be a computer expert, but you do need basic keyboard and mouse skills. Be sure to ask for a Resume Template at the reception desk if you register in person.
